How We Are Different

Because you have accumulated wealth, we believe you have earned the right to consultative, concierge-level, customized solutions. Aurora specializes in avoiding risk and helping you achieve your long-term investment goals.

  • INVESTMENT POLICY STATEMENT – We collaborate with you to create a personalized investment policy statement (IPS). The IPS is your written document delineating return objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon, income and growth preferences, and tax considerations, among other goals. With your input, we create a recommended asset allocation that serves as the specific and disciplined roadmap for how your account will be structured.
  • CONSISTENT COMMUNICATION – We communicate regularly with you through written quarterly reports, regular emails, phone calls, in-person meetings, and an as-needed timely follow-up on market events, particularly when the market is volatile.
  • INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED PORTFOLIOS – For your wealth planning needs, we provide high-touch, personalized service. For your portfolio needs, we recommend individually tailored stock, bond, and allocation strategies. We don’t push standardized or model portfolios, mutual funds, or ETF baskets.
  • INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE REPORTS – Knowing how you are progressing on your financial goals is essential to us. You will get an easy-to-follow quarterly report with custom graphics instead of competitor versions that may obfuscate results. We clearly show your absolute returns and progress and your relative performance.
  • LONG-TERM PERFORMANCE – Our strategies seek to outperform benchmarks in up markets and to protect your assets from volatility in down markets. Controlling risk has been a key to this. Because we employ a common-sense growth at a reasonable price investment discipline and a 25-year track record through all manner of investment climates, clients gain confidence that they are charted towards success in their long-term financial goals.
  • FEES – Our fees are competitive, clear, and transparent. You should know what you are paying for.

How We Get to Know You: 7 Questions

Our wealth management process starts with getting to know you and your investment personality.

What Can You Tell Us About Yourself and Your Family?

During the initial discovery process, we want to know what’s important to you, what you value, and what you want to accomplish. We’ll also ask about your investment personality, risk profile, and growth objectives.

1

In What are You Currently Invested?

We also want to know where you are currently invested. We look at your investments and aggregate them to get your total picture. Are your investment allocations a good mix, or do they overlap? Are you taking on too much risk or not investing with tax mitigation in mind? What are the gaps?

2

What is Your Current Tax Strategy?

We also want to know about your tax situation and goals. We often work in conjunction with your CPA or other tax specialists, when appropriate, to structure a plan aligned with your goals.

3

Is Your Insurance Coverage Appropriate?

Do you have the best personal and business insurance coverage for you and your family? This may include life, health, long-term care, and umbrella insurance.

4

What Does Your Estate Plan Look Like?

Have you created an estate planning strategy, and if so, what does it look like? If you don’t have an estate plan, where do you start?

5

Do You Have a Plan for Philanthropic Efforts?

Donor-advised funds and giving highly appreciated stocks to a charity of your choice are highly impactful tax benefits while at the same time accomplishing philanthropic goals.

6

Are You Getting Social Security Benefits?

Are you currently or will you soon be receiving Social Security payments? What are the best ways to deploy these assets?

How You Can Use Our Portfolios

As a Core Portfolio

For many investors, our Growth at A Reasonable Price strategy can be used as a core portfolio— the ballast and backbone of an investment allocation. The reason is that Aurora’s investment discipline seeks to deliver long-term market-beating returns with lower volatility. Investing in mid-cap stocks is central to our equity strategy. As is managing risk through consistent sector diversification and limits on individual position sizes to avoid imbalances.

As Part of a Diversified Portfolio

For other investors, whether high-net-worth, family offices, or other institutional investors, we may recommend a diversified portfolio that includes fixed-income, international, alternative, or other assets. For these investors, we use best-in-class managers to help achieve investment objectives.
