6. How Do Others Want to Be Remembered?

 

One of our clients, an active and philanthropic woman in her 70s, is a cancer survivor. We have lunch with her frequently. Of her many accomplishments in family and business life, it has stuck in our minds that she hopes people will remember her for being kind.

Another long-term client was a supremely successful corporate executive. He suffered a slow death from Parkinson’s. During his career, he built one of the most prosperous retail firms in the US, employing thousands.

During retirement he endowed a world-class business school. At his memorial, it was clear that he accomplished what he wanted — to leave the world a better place.
